UNDE’s healthcare workers unite against cuts and privatization

UNDE National News

A few weeks ago, four UNDE members proudly represented our union at the Canadian Health Coalition Lobby Day on Parliament Hill — joining the largest group of participants the Coalition has ever hosted.

Their experience is a powerful reminder of what it means to be engaged, informed, and active in defending public services.

Trina Seca attended her first lobby and rally representing UNDE. She described the experience as both informative and eye-opening, particularly around current healthcare challenges, including developments in Alberta.

“It was very informative and a great learning experience… I hope the federal government hears our voices and concerns in regards to our healthcare.”

Janice Layte, representing dental UNDE members, shared how meaningful it was to take part:

“The CHC lobby was enlightening… It was an amazing opportunity and I was proud to represent dental UNDE members. The more voices we have, the more effective we can be in helping to make change.”

Monica Racz participated in meetings with Members of Parliament, attended Question Period, and took part in the rally on Parliament Hill. She described both constructive and challenging conversations with elected officials — and left the experience motivated and empowered:

“This gave me the drive to educate others on healthcare issues that matter to all Canadians, as well as the confidence to contact MPs or MLAs to discuss what is important to Canadians.”

Throughout the event, UNDE members stood alongside nurses, healthcare workers, journalists, and union activists from across the country. They demonstrated that UNDE members are engaged not only in workplace issues, but in broader fights that affect communities across Canada — including protecting accessible, public health-care.

Participation like this builds confidence, strengthens solidarity, and showcases the leadership within our membership. We are proud of Trina, Janice, Rachelle and Monica for representing UNDE so thoughtfully and passionately.

If you are interested in representing UNDE at future events, we encourage you to express interest to your local representatives.  Your voice matters — and together, we are stronger.
