COVID-19: Update from UNDE National President June Winger (March 18)
Brothers and Sisters, In light of how rapidly things are evolving regarding the COVID-19 crisis, National Defence and I have implemented a triage process whereby Vice Presidents receiving questions or concerns can raise issues through me, and have it dealt with from a national perspective versus local management. This seems to be the most expeditious and appropriate approach in terms of quick action so we can ensure consistency in messaging and fairness in approach nationwide. The Union of National Defence Employees National Executive and I continue to monitor the situation based on the reports provided by each of the locals. Alarmingly, we are hearing of local issues whereby the directions laid out in the messages from the Deputy Minister are not being followed. If you feel that the direction is not being followed at your worksite, please raise the issue with your local president, who will forward the information to the VP of your region, and to me to address these on a case by case basis, from the national level. UNDE has had, and is having success getting resolution to local, regional and national inconsistencies, but we must be made aware of the situation. Please continue to follow the recommendations of the health professionals so that together we can help minimize the spread of this virus and, return to normal life in the not too distant future. In Solidarity, June Winger National President UNDE
