UNDE Members Across Canada Wear Red in Solidarity with Wainwright

On Friday, October 23, UNDE members across Canada came together to wear red in solidarity with the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Wainwright community following the tragic fire on October 17, 2026.

Through the #RedForWainwright initiative, members wore red in their workplaces to honour those who lost their lives, support those recovering from injuries, and stand with the families, colleagues and community members affected by this devastating tragedy.

As members across Canada demonstrated their support, UNDE National President June Winger travelled to Wainwright to stand alongside members and the local community during this difficult time.

“The health and safety of our members remains our top priority. In the days and weeks ahead, we will continue to work with our local representatives to better understand the circumstances surrounding this tragedy, address any concerns raised by our members, and keep members informed as more information becomes available.”

How to show your ongoing support

While our national day of solidarity has passed, there are still meaningful ways to support those affected by this tragedy.

UNDE Local 30908 has encouraged members who wish to provide financial support to consider donating to the Edmonton Firefighters Burn Treatment Society, which supports burn survivors through specialized treatment, recovery programs, research and medical equipment.

Members may also consider making a donation to a local burn treatment unit in their community.

Every gesture of compassion and solidarity helps demonstrate our support for those affected and for the broader community during this difficult time.

Standing together in difficult times

UNDE extends its sincere thanks to every member and Local that participated in #RedForWainwright. We also recognize the firefighters, first responders, emergency personnel and healthcare workers who have worked tirelessly in response to this tragedy.

As the Wainwright community continues to grieve and recover, our solidarity must extend beyond a single day. UNDE will continue to stand with our members, support those affected and seek answers as more information becomes available.
