The Union of National Defence Employees is calling for our interested members to apply for the Labour College of Canada’s Certificate Program — an in-depth, university level course on issues related to work and the rights of workers in Canada.
Graduates of the fully-funded course will be equipped with new skills and knowledge to take on the challenges of today as well as new leadership roles within UNDE, their labour council and the wider labour movement for the benefit of all workers.
Eligibility Criteria
Generally, successful applicants will be those who:
- Are in a position, or likely to be in a position, to apply what they learn in the College and contribute in a meaningful way to making our union stronger and more effective at the local, regional or national level through PSAC and/or Component structures.
- Have demonstrated the capacity to engage in critical, open and creative thinking. That is, members who are able to understand and process the challenges unions face and to be open to new ways to address those complex challenges.
- Are open to new ideas, curious about their own and other unions, and are committed to union-building both in the short and long term.
- Have significant knowledge of the trade union movement, and social movements. For example, members should have a minimum of three years of experience of active engagement in the trade union movement, and experience in community social justice work.
- Have experience in equity and human rights work.
- Have an understanding and acceptance of the considerable time and effort required to complete Labour College.
Selection Process
PSAC will review the applications of PSAC candidates who meet the minimum CLC College Admission criteria as determined by the Canadian Labour College Registrar.
