Brother Allan Meredith awarded long-service award

Allan Meredith has served as a DND employee for the past 33 years.

During these 33 years, Brother Meredith has served the entire time as a Union Steward and has also held the office of President for 9 of those years. He has been a delegate to numerous Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE) tri-annual Conventions and PSAC Conventions. Throughout his career he has a strong activist and he lobbied many politicians in regard to Union activities. He has been involved in facilitating training and courses for the UNDE members. He served on numerous committees, one of which was the Bylaws Committee. At one of the conventions, Brother Meredith ran for National President against Brother Ken Holley. As well, he worked on the National Supply Chain project with the present President, Brother John McLennan.

From 22 January, 1980 to June 1996, Brother Meredith served as President and steward of the Local 60305, Moncton Supply Depot 5, which had nearly 300 members. The Supply Depot closed in 1996, which left Brother Meredith as being surplus and he was placed on a priority list. Within two weeks he was offered a position in Supply, Returns & Issues Section, in Gagetown, which he accepted. He worked and travelled to Gagetown for approximately one year as well as holding the Steward’s position for Local 60303 Gagetown. He was then offered a position at the Moncton Garrison, which he accepted. To this day, Brother Meredith is a Steward for Local 60303.

Brother Meredith is now an affected employee as Moncton is in the process of closing.
